MSU’s Community Music School Detroit is an outreach division of the MSU College of Music.
Michigan State University’s (MSU) Community Music Schools in East Lansing (CMS) and Detroit (CMS-D) are outreach units of the MSU College of Music. Together, we bring music education to individuals of all ages (from infancy to 90+ years of age), abilities, and incomes.
Since 2009, CMS Detroit has offered high-quality music therapy, group and private lessons, youth ensembles, adult ensembles, and music production classes to residents of Detroit and surrounding areas. Early childhood music opportunities and youth summer camps are also available. We continue to add programs in response to community need.
Music has the ability to transform lives. We’ve seen children and adults alike find community and a sense of belonging while gaining new skills, building confidence, and even finding their professional calling through the power of music.
We invite the entire community to engage with us.
The MSU Community Music Schools are a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
